Hidden Genius Project and White Sox Tech Opportunity for Youth

Today AMG Sports Media was honored to be invited by the Chicago White Sox in collaboration with The Hidden Genius Project to cover a powerful initiative dedicated to exposing young African American men to careers in IT, technology, STEM, and leadership. It was a day where possibility came alive.

The Hidden Genius Project trains and mentors Black male youth in technology creation entrepreneurship and leadership to transform their lives and communities. Their mission is built on the belief that Black male youth deserve opportunities in the 21st century tech economy and should have their genius celebrated visible and fully realized. Since 2012 the program has served more than 11,400 students with over 772,800 direct training hours in coding app design team building and leadership.

At the event hosted by the White Sox these young men showed up ready to engage. They asked sharp questions they leaned in when presented with the inner workings of sports technology and IT systems under the leadership of Mark Johnson (title undetermined) or another tech professional from the White Sox front office. They saw how data is gathered how software tools assist coaching how broadcast technology supports fan experience and even how cybersecurity and infrastructure protect digital assets in professional sports. They did not only observe they interacted they learned they saw themselves in roles often unseen in sports coverage.

This initiative is not simply a tour of tech rooms. It is visibility and access. It is opening doors to cultures of innovation that are too often hidden behind screens or labels. It is demonstrating that being part of professional sports is about what happens behind the scenes as much as what happens on the diamond or out on the field.

For the youth present especially those who may not have considered STEM pathways these moments can change trajectories. Being able to see someone who looks like you in a tech role being respected and powerful can animate dreams. It can shift mindsets from what is possible to what is expected.

At AMG Sports Media we believe sports is more than scores more than stats. We believe in telling the full story. We believe in capturing the in-between spaces where potential lives where representation matters. We are deeply grateful to the White Sox and Hidden Genius Project for inviting us into this space to amplify voices often overlooked. This is part of what we do. This is why we cover everything in between.
