Kamilla Cardoso owned the paint, Courtney Vandersloot etched her name in history, and for the first time this season, the Chicago Sky sealed a win that felt like a turning point.
Sky Town, we’re finally on the board.
The Chicago Sky snapped their cold start and showed serious fight at home, outlasting the Dallas Wings 97–92 in a high-energy, hard-fought battle that finally gave fans something to get loud about. It was messy at times, but the Sky showed grit, and more importantly, growth.
Let’s talk about the glow-up: Kamilla Cardoso, the 6’7” center, played with poise, dominating the paint with a career-high 23 points. She started strong scoring the Sky’s first 10 points of the game. She was a force down low, finishing strong, cleaning up boards, and giving Chicago the kind of frontcourt edge we’ve been waiting for all season. Tonight, KC reminded everyone of her size and her ability to dominate.
And while Cardoso was anchoring the paint, the Sky got a boost from deep thanks to Rebecca Allen, who quietly delivered a clutch performance from beyond the arc. Shooting 50% from three and stretching the floor at key moments, Allen kept the offense flowing.
But tonight’s biggest headline? Courtney Vandersloot, the engine that’s powered Chicago for over a decade, made history. The veteran point guard didn’t just run the offense, she etched her name at the top of the franchise record books, becoming the all-time leading scorer in Sky history, surpassing none other than her wife and fellow Sky legend, Allie Quigley. Chicago loves a legacy, and Sloot just gave us one more chapter to cheer for.

One standout in the mix? Ariel Atkins. Her aggression over the last two games has been a spark. Just five games in, she’s starting to look more comfortable in this new system, settling into the offense and finding her rhythm with this roster.
On the other side of the court, Dallas Wings Arike Ogunbowale was electric, as always. She dropped a casual 37 points, slicing through defenders and keeping Dallas within striking distance all night. But the Wings couldn’t get over the hump. The Sky matched them bucket for bucket, possession for possession, and for once this season, finished the job.
Make no mistake, this wasn’t a flawless win. The Sky still have work to do defensively, especially when it comes to containing elite guards like Ogunbowale. And while the Sky lead the league with turnovers per game, tonight showed progress: better execution, fewer turnovers.
It wasn’t perfect, but it was enough. They hustled. They executed. And this time, they closed.
With this win, the Sky improve to 1–4, which is not exactly a dream start, but every season has a turning point. Maybe, just maybe, this was it.
They’ll run it back Saturday night in Dallas. The energy’s different now. And for the first time this season, Sky Town has something to celebrate.
